Place de Clichy, Paris

The cemetery of Montmatre is the third largest necropolis in Paris. Prior to coming to Paris, I heard about the famous cemeteries of Paris and how they are a tourist attraction because of famous people being buried there. First of all, it’s huge, it’s over 11 hectares big and there are more than 20000 burials. I walked there for a good 3 hours I believe, early September. I think it was probably a weekday but there weren’t many people, it felt really weird walking into such a private place to go and take pictures but there I was. The tombs were marble I believe, there were so intricately designed. I went in there mostly to document and hadn’t had any particular theme in mind. It was a very sunny (rare) day in Paris and it felt poetic photographing the inevitable.
