One of the tours I took was a Tibetan Cultural tour in Pokhara. My first fascination began with Tibet in Childhood reading Tintin and while planning the itinerary for Nepal I came across this tour.
Hands-on one of the best decisions I have made, Thupten our guide (A Native Tibetan himself) educated us on Tibetan culture, history and even food. The highlight was of course going to the “Pema Ts'al Sakya Monastic Institute’’ and meeting the Principal monk who shared about how he became to be a monk. If there’s anything new I learnt about Buddhism, it’s that it teaches one to be very curious. We learnt about on a what a student’s/monk’s daily schedule looks like - what is being taught in their classes etc. The students (usually from a very young age) who study at the Monastic institute are from refugee come refugee or impoverished families or of course because of their families’ devotion to the region.
As the Principal was sharing, 2 young students curiously came to seat around us. I made these images then. As we left, the Principal said ‘let’s do a photo with a peace sign, with everything’s that’s been happening around the world, we need more peace.
